A Place Beyond Alumni Survey Results and Summary
Where ever you are, I wish for moments of peace and calm for you as the new year begins.
Two things: Alumni Survey Results and Updates!
Survey Results and Summary
Thanks to all the alumni who replied to our survey! A few days ago, I sent out confirmation emails to our 4 gift card winners!
Overall, we had about half of our total alumni base respond to our survey — a bit above average for comparable organizations/surveys.
Click here to read the results and summary slides. As usual, Noah has done an amazing job putting it all together.
We based our survey on the Gap Year Association's alumni survey to help make our data comparable to a composite of like-organizations. Overall, it looks like APB's survey numbers are similar to other GYA program outcomes. Take a look at their 2020 results to satisfy your curiosity.
With APB ending, we've been sharing some of our learnings — both the highs and the hard lessons — with folks in experiential, outdoor, and higher education organizations to help support other programs. I'll be using this anonymous survey data to help us do that more effectively. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns with how this data will be used or shared.
Updates
APB: I'll start sending out a community+learning+outdoors newsletter to this list in the new year. We have >1200 people subscribed, and, in the first few dispatches, I'll play with a couple different formats/topics and send out a subscriber survey to better understand what resources, thoughts, and ideas will best serve this community. Keep an eye out for that.
I've tabled future APB plans (higher ed or remote work) as a couple of side projects have taken up more of my time. I worry about this latest omicron wave and wonder how schools and heath departments will respond. If you are working in a school, camp, or in experiential education, I'd love to be a resource.
Me: I just moved back to Seattle, and I love the rain. I've been working on a couple of personal projects: helping my extended family's mountain farm in Ireland and setting up a Seattle-based ski rental business. As those settle down, I'm excited to begin looking for a new project or organization in the new year.
Please reach out with any requests, questions, or if you'd like to talk about nothing in particular. I'm so grateful for everyone in the APB community.
Thanks,
Ciaran
